Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return - Season 1
We list a host of adventures and surprises about the science fiction story of an employee seduced by scientists Kinga Forrester and Max Flunky with an exciting mission. The series begins with Kenga Forster, who continues the journey with her long-term lover without fatigue, while Jonah and his crew are digging into the chaos of a ski resort disaster.
Thankfully, our new trio is able to give it what for and it certainly won me over. There are a lot of great laughs to be had, including a certain MST3K recurring punchline from the old days.
I'm happy to say that Jonah Ray is a more than capable guy in a yellow jumpsuit whose delivery and presence feels more Mike than Joel. Since I prefer Mike, this immediately helped me to ease into the newness and familiarity of the reboot.
The funniest sci-fi show of all time (apologies to both Futurama and Red Dwarf), MST3K was as good as the movies it parodied were bad;meaning it was very, very good.
The new 'MST3K' achieves the original's tricky balance, and throws in another one besides: balancing nostalgia for the old show with innovations of the new.
Technically, you could still watch this new season in a random order (as long as you began with the first episode and ended with the season finale), but the increase in serialization actually works nicely to tie the season together.
