Jimmy Marino was a CIA agent, after many troubles at his life because of his work, he decided to leave this job. The days spin, and New York City Police asked his help to run after a serial killer who is very dangerous and they think that Marino is the one who can catch him.
The setup isn't groundbreaking, but Cumming's character, who has a husband, Andy (Daniel Ings), who'd rather he stuck to academia, is, if only for the matter-of-factness of that one biographical detail.
But what's most interesting in Instinct is the matter-of-fact presentation of Dylan's personal life as an openly gay married man, whose husband Andy isn't thrilled that Dylan is going back on the field. If he didn't, of course, there'd be no show.
