Elementary is an American crime drama based on Sherlock Holmes and other characters appearing in the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Miller and Liu have excellent (platonic) chemistry, and Miller is far more charming and alive than when he was battling an American accent on ABC's Eli Stone.
Two things are going for this latest adaptation -- solid production values and a talented lead actor. Make that three things -- a network that knows just what viewers want.
Holmes is acted expertly by Miller, with all the quick-witted dialogue and dry humor we love to see from Sherlock Holmes, as well as a physicality that injects energy into this otherwise blandly performed show.
By the mystery's big reveal, a farce of technology that will make anyone who's recently bought a cellphone scoff, I was near screaming with irritation.
