The drama series follows the story of a man named Scott, a loving father of four. When diagnosed with cancer, Scott tries to gather a reliable set of role models that includes Anthony, his older friend, Larry, and Oliver, his surgeon and best friend of his wife Robin. Scott assigns this group a set of tasks to take care of the family in the event he is unable to do it himself.
Council of Dads fails to connect with viewers on an emotional level because it summarizes what could have been an entire season of story in 42 minutes and then asks us to care about people we barely know.
Council of Dads feels like a drama with a fair amount of potential. What it doesn't feel like, however much NBC would like it to be, is another This is Us.
