Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a single-camera workplace comedy about what happens when a hotshot detective gets a new Captain with a lot to prove. In Season 3, Tightly-wound captain Ray Holt takes over Brooklyn's 99th precinct, which includes Detective Jake Peralta, a talented but carefree detective who's used to doing whatever he wants.
You have to love a show that makes you forget it was off the air for four months. Picking up right after the cliffhanger, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 3 Episode 1 got right back into the swing of things without missing a step.
The decision to favor substance over chuckles might seem stupid on paper, but it's smart in practice, and, as Terry reminds us, "stupid" is a no-no word.
The Andy Samberg starring comedy is capable of great things; we already know this to be true. But great things are not what's coming in the show's first two episodes back.
The first two episodes back find Brooklyn Nine-Nine firing on all cylinders, blending a talented ensemble with terrific writing and the show's distinctively madcap energy.
Even with a stacked cast and fantastic creative team -- as well as an established and effective groove -- Brooklyn Nine-Nine isn't afraid to step outside its comfort zone and grasp for more.
With one of the most universally strong comedic casts on board, and what looks to be a season full of shake ups for the characters, I'm excited to see what's coming next.
First, just to kick things off, I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine and it's probably my favorite comedy currently on television, filling the Parks and Recreation void of heartfelt comedies.
