Ash is an everyman who works as a sales-clerk. One day, he inadvertently reads the incantation and unleashes the Kandarian Demon. Strange power now is on his hand and the human destiny is depend on the fight between him and the Evil. Season 2 comes with 'more gore, more guts, and more groovy'.
The second season, the tone and tenor of both its leading man-and the series-finds its rhythm and makes a case for an even stronger sophomore run. Like a fine wine, Ash Williams only gets better with age.
I'm not saying this isn't entertaining, nor out of line with Evil Dead's true nature. But what I am saying is that the show has more or less figured out its identity: a raunchier version of a Saturday morning action program for adults.
That was a very strong way to start the season, and this show seems to be firmly in control of its characters and tone. It was funny, gory, and action packed. What's not to love?
The bloodthirsty violence and silly one-liners are fan service at both their finest and simplest, which ultimately hints that season 2 will be even bigger and groovier than before.
It's silly moments... - combined with all the horror and gore the Evil Dead movies are famous for - help Ash vs. Evil Dead stand out from its predecessors.
From brawling in bars to cracking skulls at crematoriums, this exciting episode got Ash right tonally while also exploring his past in intriguing ways.
For those of us who take an admittedly odd comfort in watching our devils made flesh, dismembered and defeated, accepting Starz's invitation to ride with "Ash vs Evil Dead" may be the perfect weekly escape.
Considering the talent behind the show, not to mention its incomparable star, we have no doubt Ash vs. Evil Dead will remain a fun ride throughout Season 2. We're just hoping for a little more Ash and a little less Slash.
