Adventure Time: Distant Lands - Season 1 Episode 01: BMO
In the animation series, there will be different daily adventures, especially when there is a deadly space emergency at the far ends of the galaxy. Now, everyone needs a superhero hero to emerge as there is only one hero to call, and maybe not a BMO
CRITICS OF "Adventure Time: Distant Lands - Season 1"
AV Club
It still feels like Adventure Time, operating on the same blend of dream logic, comedy, and surreal heroism that made the show such a delight and for so long.
Hopefully, BMO sets the tone for the other specials while still allowing for similarly offbeat stories without feeling too much like one another. HBO Max could do far worse than allowing different Adventure Time characters to dream of grand adventure.
This is a fun, funny, and occasionally moving first episode, which bodes well for the rest of this limited return series. The only thing that worries me is I expect the remaining episodes will feature far less BMO.
If the remaining three Distant Lands installments - including one with Bubblegum/Marceline, one with Peppermint Butler, and a fourth with Finn and Jake - are even half as good as "BMO," I will be satisfied.
BMO steps into the role of hero by fighting the power of a broken system led by a corrupt ruler -- a narrative that is both universally timeless and incredibly timely.
