Theodoric I was the king of the Visigoths from AD 418 - 451. Theodoric pushed the boundaries of the Visigothic kingdom to the shores of the Mediterranean, gaining valuable ports and defeating a combined Roman-Hun army in the process, forcing the Romans to aknowledge the sovereignty of the Visigothic state.In 451, when the Huns attacked west into Gaul, Theodoric allied with Flavius Aetius, the magister militum of Rome, and they fought against the Huns at the Battle of Chalons. Although Theodoric's army was decisive in the defeat Attila, Theodoric himself was killed in the battle.Theodoric was succeeded by his sons Thorismund and Theodoric II. Show less «
