Summer is a charmer. She starts the show as Steve Tanner's secretary and secret girlfriend. She bends over backwards to befriend Lauren, who ignores her right up until Lauren realizes that Summer is the only one she has to go to for advice and help regarding her relationship with Carter. Summer helps facilitate this change in their relationship by confessing to Lauren her story of engaging in inappropriate sexual relationships as a young woman. Because of these relationships, she assures Lauren, she now intends to stall sex until marriage. When Steve proposes to Summer, she originally says yes. However, after discovering that Steve has prevented Lauren's now drug-free mother from coming to visit her daughter, she leaves him. Since she no longer works as Steve's secretary, Summer takes a job at the Rock gym. She develops a flirtatious, at times combative, relationship with Sasha over the course of the time she works there. However, Summer's religion and her relationship with God are vital to her, and these 'prior commitments' eventually drive a wedge between Sasha and herself. She wants to wait to have sex until marriage, and be with somebody who not only appreciates her values, but shares them. She wants to learn how to be in a better relationship with God, which Sasha does not value at all; she appreciates gymnastics, but cannot share his passion for it. She essentially only chose her job to keep an eye on Lauren, and out of necessity. They love different things, and they approach life in very different ways. Eventually, they thus decide to part. Summer goes to church to pray for someone to love , and Steve Tanner appears seeking forgiveness for keeping Lauren's mother from her. He seems to be the one God intends for her to love. They reconcile. The one official date that Summer goes on with Sasha is to the restaurant in which Steve Tanner once proposed to her, and they in fact run in to Steve and his date Chloe while they are there. They claim to be on a business dinner , trying to keep their relationship a secret for Lauren's sake. They call Kim to show up and act as though she was invited too, in order to maintain their cover. It is not an auspicious start. Summer and Sasha have dinner at his trailer a few nights later, which is briefly interrupted by Payson dropping off food that SHE intended to eat with Sasha. Summer mentions Payson's clear adoration of her trainer. Later, Summer seems concerned that Sasha did not tell her that Payson kissed him. He claims to have had her best interests in mind. Summer is a little less of a fool than Sasha is at least pretending to be here. Summer eventually tells Lauren that she is seeing Sasha, leading Lauren to make her last desperate plea for Summer to become HER new mother and marry her father by sending in the tape of Payson kissing Sasha. Summer spends the end of episode ten eating a very fancy dinner with Lauren and her father. She seems to have distinctly made her choice, especially when Sasha leaves town and she does not follow or protest. Show less «
