Sabrina Spellman is a teenager who learns, on her sixteenth birthday, that she is half-witch on her father's side. She lives in Westbridge with her two aunts, Zelda and Hilda Spellman, who are also witches, as well as their talking cat Salem Saberhagen, who is also a witch. They live in an old Victorian house at 113 Collins Road.Sabrina is a typical teenager trying to navigate high school, but she also happens to have magical powers. Because they are new to her, she often gets herself into mishaps when her spells go awry and her witch aunts come to her rescue. Her magic is manifested in a burst of golden sparkles.She is upbeat, friendly, and determined. She has a good sense of humor and tends toward sarcasm. She frequently says woo hoo! and gotta go! She attends Westbridge High School and later Adams College in Boston. She is good friends with Jenny, then Valerie and later Roxie and Morgan.She dates a football player named Harvey Kinkle, who does not know that she is a witch. The head cheerleader Libby Chessler, is often a rival for Harvey's affections and in activities at school. Sabrina aspires to go into journalism.Background: In her sophomore year of high school, Sabrina moves in with her aunts after her father is called away to the foreign service and her mother goes on an archeological dig in Peru.Sabrina's mother is a mortal named Diana who she is not in contact with. Sabrina later learns there are consequences if she sees her mother after becoming a witch.Her father Edward Ted Spellman, is a witch, who has at least four sisters including Hilda and Zelda. There is also Sabrina's third aunt from the sun Vesta, and Sophia, a witch who lives in Rome who looks identical to Sabrina.Her great-aunt Irma is the family matriarch and has a soft spot for Sabrina.Although Sabrina is an only child, she has an evil twin named Katrina, who has different parents but looks like her and is also a witch. She also has a younger stepbrother named Donald, who is a witch and the son of Sabrina's stepmother, Gail Kippling Spellman.She has cousins Larry, Zsa Zsa, and Marigold and another aunt named Beulah.
