Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) is introduced as a teenager in Woodsboro, CA. He is a film fanatic, not unlike Quentin Tarantino or your garden variety video store clerk. He is a member of a small clique at his high school, most of whom die within the same week. In the end, only he and Sidney Prescott (part of the clique/his secret crush) survive the murders, orchestated by their friends , Billy Loumis (Syd's boyfriend) and Stu. Enter a year later- Sydney and Randy are in the same college and a movie has been released chronicaling their near fatal experience. Then, slash, a copycat begins knocking off people left and right. Randy is stabbed to death in oportunist reporter Gale Weathers' van by Billy Loumis' psychotic, revenge seeking, mother. After several years of silence a new killer begins hunting Sydney, Weathers and police officer Dewey. Randy, knowing the Rules of the slasher genre, was convinced his time was nearing, having given up his virginity to a fellow video store clerk (known as creepy Karen), before the Mrs.Loumis' stabbing spree in that van and recorded a video message to his friends, with instructions on how to avoid his fate, should the killer strike again.
