Seti I was a Pharaoh of Egypt from c. 1290 BC to 1279 BC. The son of Ramses I, Seti was the father of Ramses II. Several films have portrayed Seti as the Pharaoh reigning during Moses' time as a Prince of Egypt.THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956) Seti (called Sethi in this film) is portrayed as a wise and understanding King, beloved by his ward Nefritiri and his nephew Moses. Despite his power-hungry son Ramses, Seti finds favor in his nephew Moses' military success and building projects made in his honor. On his Jubilee, he plans to officially make Moses his Successor and husband to Nefritiri. But the revelation of Moses' Hebrew origins, and Moses' opposition to the slavery of his people, renders him an enemy of Egypt. The heartbroken Seti orders all mention and record of Moses to be stricken from the country, but he is unable to punish his disgraced ex-nephew, giving that task to his official heir Ramses. At his deathbed, Seti breaks his own proclamation by speaking the name of his still beloved Moses.THE PRINCE OF EGYPT (1998) Seti is portrayed as a stern Pharaoh to Egypt and his sons Ramses and Moses. He is especially hard on his son Ramses, seeing his immaturity as unfit to a future King of Egypt. Later, when Moses learns of his heritage and discovers the horrible massacre of Hebrew male children, Seti explains to him that he enacted those deaths to prevent a future rebellion by the slaves. His contempt for those innocents turns Moses against his adopted father.IN THE BEGINNING (2000) In the Exodus segment, Seti orders the death of the Hebrew male children according to the advice of his chamberlain Happatezoah.THE MUMMY (1999) and THE MUMMY RETURNS (2001) Seti is portrayed in flashback as a powerful and rich Pharaoh whose treasures are the driving plot of the story. He is murdered by his mistress Anck-Su-Namun and her lover the High Priest Imhotep, an act that leads to both their deaths. In the sequel, it is revealed that Evelyn O'Connell's past incarnation was Seti's daughter Nefritiri, who from a balcony witnessed the murder of her father.
