Peter is the adult son of Daniel Sullivan. He has returned to his home town for Thanksgiving. While driving into town, he encounters his estranged father, Sully, hitch-hiking on the road to town and offers him a ride. Peter and his mother were abandoned by Sully when Peter was still an infant. Although his mother has re-married and still lives in the same small town, Peter has not interacted with his father through the years. He is now a University professor who has been fired from his job through monetary problems at the school. He seperates from his wife who returns home with one of their two young sons. The other son stays with his father and proves to be the bridge between the generations. Peter goes to work doing construction jobs with Sully and Sully's best friend Rub. By film end, Peter and his father manage to repair some of the damage in their relationship.
