A former member of the notorious Deadly Viper Assaination Squad, O-Ren Ishii is a half Japanese, half Chinese-American assassin, and the first name on the Bride's Death List.O-Ren (codename: Cottonmouth) is the only member of the Deadly Vipers of whom we know significant information about. Her background is narrated to viewers by the Bride in the form of a short anime. At the age of nine, O-Ren witnessed her parents die at the hands of a Japanese Yakuza boss, named Boss Matsumoto. She lay under the bed and watched as her father was stabbed with a sword, his body falling near to hers. This caused her to whimper, almost giving away her position. She did not directly see her mother's death, but her face caught the drops of her mother's blood as they seeped through the bed that O-Ren was hiding under. A tear streaked down her cheek, and she sobbed, ''Mummy!'' The sword which plunged through her mother also narrowly missed O-Ren's face.Afterwards, the family home is set alight, but O-Ren escapes; swearing that she will get her revenge on Matsumoto. ''Luckily'', Boss Matsumoto was a paedophile, and at just eleven years old, O-Ren posed as a child prostitute and murdered him in his bed. She also shot two of his men, again from a position under a bed. We see a glimpse of a sadistic side of O-Ren during Matsumoto's murder, which she evidently revels in, although for the rest of the movie she seems to act rather callously towards her victims. It is mentioned that, by twenty, she was one of the greatest female assassins in the world. During the anime, we see her fire a gun and hit a male target in the forehead from a great distance.O-Ren appears to be the youngest of the Deadly Vipers. While her current age is never mentioned, we can assume that she is 29, since the Bride tells us that at 25 O-Ren played a part in attempting to kill her, and the Bride awoke from the coma four years later. O-Ren's background forms a significant part of the movie; perhaps implying that the two women may once have been close. However, this did not stop her from severely beating the Bride on the day of the Bride's wedding rehearsal. When the Bride wakes from the coma, O-Ren is no longer an assassin, but the leader of the Tokyo Yakuza. In a terrific scene in which a fellow crime-boss, Boss Tanaka, accuses O-Ren of degrading their council with her ''half-breed'' heritage, O-Ren promptly runs across a table and decapitates the man, threatening to do the same to anyone else who mentions her heritage in a negative manner. The Bride's arrival in Tokyo begins a dramatic battle between her and O-Ren's Yakuza gang, the Crazy 88.The Bride and O-Ren are implied to have shared a somewhat sister-like relationship, through their recital of the rhyme ''Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids'', which could also be seen as a reference to the Bride's real name. Nevertheless, this does not prevent them from fighting to the death in the snow-covered garden of the House of Blue Leaves. At first, O-Ren does not believe that the Bride's sword is Hattori Hanzo steel, and she seems to have the upper hand for a while. She injures the Bride with a long cut to the upper back, and makes mocking remarks as the Bride lies wounded in the snow. However, a determined Bride gets back up and they sword-fight briefly again, resulting in O-Ren's leg being cut. We see blood trickling down her foot and from where the wound is. O-Ren seems to realise her opponent has equal fighting skills, and she apologises for earlier ridiculing the Bride. The two cross swords for the last time, ending with the decapitation of O-Ren. A line of her blood sprays across the snow, and we see the top of her head (along with her hair) fly through the air and land on the ground. Her sword falls from her hand. Spoken in Japanese, her last words are, ''That really was a Hattori Hanzo sword.''. Showing her face with a slice in the Brain part,She then fell down(Vol. 1)
