She came to America with her family in 1910. After leaving Ellis Island, she lived in Little Italy, New York City, New York. There she meant Vito Corleone and they married 1913. He worked at an olive oil shop in Little Italy. In 1917, they had their first child Santino. In 1919, they had their second Fredo. Michael followed in 1920 and Connie in 1923. They also adopted Tom Hagen in 1924. In the early 1920s, Vito was fired from his job and started to rob people with good friends Peter Clemenza and Salvatore Tessio. They eventually started their own mafia family in 1925. During an on-going war during the late 1940s with a rival family, her son Santino was killed resulting in the end of the war. Don Vito retired shortly after and Michael took over as Don. They were going to move to Las Vegas in 1955, but before then, Don Vito died of a heart attack. The family moved To Las Vegas without him. Carmella saw two assassination attempts on Michael and the beginning of another war. But she eventually died at her home in Lake Tahoe in 1959. She was 61 years old.
