Lady Jane Grey (12 October 1537 - 12 February 1554), was Queen of England and Ireland from 10 July 1553 -19 July 1553 at the age of 15. She was the great-grandchild of Henry VII the first Tudor king and the eldest daughter of Frances Brandon and Henry Grey.According to the Act of succession drawn up by parliament during Henry VIII s reign she was 4th in line of succession after Edward VI. But Edward, already king but mortally ill, changed his will surpassing both his half sisters in his device of the succession . He wanted to pass his crown after his death to Frances Brandon who would pass it to her daughter Jane.Jane was named after Jane Seymour, the queen and wife of Henry VIII who gave birth to Edward on the same day she was born. The disappointment of Frances Brandon for giving birth to a daughter instead of a son was felt by her throughout her life. But King Henry's son came at a very high price.
