Gary Jones is a doctor and University lecturer who becomes the host to an alien lifeform known as Mr Grey and manages to retain his own consciousness enough to try to prevent the alien from infecting the world's water supply to take over the Earth!Growing up in Derry, Maine, with friends Pete, Henry and Beaver, Gary helps them to rescue seemingly retarded kid Duddits from the local bully seniors. As a result they are all imbued with special abilities. Gary's is psychokinesis, just like Henry.After a vaguely forboding phonecall from Beaver decades later, he is hit by a speeding car and dies, where he sees Duddits again, but is eventually revived. Meeting again a year later, he and his friends become the unwitting saviours of the world when an alien invasion interrupts their winter vacation on the Jefferson Tract's hunting reserve.Beaver is killed and Gary is possessed by Mr Grey, a parasitic alien intent on taking over the Earth. But Gary's temporary death somehow prevents Mr Grey from completely assimilating him and so Gary tries to outwit the alien while communicating with his friends, attempting to thwart Mr Grey's plans.
