In the fourth season episode of the The Incredible Hulk called The First , David Banner/The Hulk encounters Del Frye, a much older man perhaps in his late 50s. He learns that, like him, Del was exposed to gamma radiation and could transform into another Hulk-like creature. David seeks notes left by a deceased scientist named Dr Jeffrey Clive that he believes could finally allow him to be cured of his affliction and be rid of the Hulk for good. Del and David bond slightly as they each learn how the other became cursed. In Del's case, he suffered from ill health and Clive offered to relieve him and make him strong.Not only did the doctor's treatment work, but it caused Del Frye to also transform into a green skinned creature with enormous strength, much like Banner. Fryes Creature is of slight physical build but is cunning, fast, and still powerful.Yet the only major difference is that, unlike David's creature, Frye's is much more violent and bloodthirsty, guided by Frye's personality since Frye was harassed and picked on by the locals. Frye allows himself to be re-exposed to gamma radiation using a solar powered device Clive invented and begins terrorizing the town, committing acts of murder in the town while David, unnerved by this tragic mistake, must stop Frye while at the same time attempt to cure himself and possibly Frye as well before things continue to go spiralling out of control.With the help of Elizabeth Collins, a woman who was engaged to Dr Clive and whom Frye has had romantic feelings for over many years, David traps and begins to attempt Fryes cure first. However, the older man transforms and then destroys the antidote, ruining any chance David may have had to live a normal life once again. David, upset and distraught, changes into the Hulk, and now, both the Hulk and Fryes Creature battle it out, good vs. evil. Jack McGee, the newspaper reporter who comes to town to investigate the creature's rampage, as well as the local sheriff, discover Fryes secret and the sheriff shoots and kills Frye, finally putting the monster's reign of terror to an end, while David escapes, to continue searching for a cure.
