Frank Barone is the patriarch of the Barone family. He is the husband of Marie and father of Robert and Ray Barone. Frank worked hard as a bookkeeper throughout his adult life to take of his family and ensure they had all their needs met. But, like many men of his time, he generally worked too much and didn't engage with his children enough when he came home. He is cranky and outspoken, unashamed about insulting people -- particularly his own family -- in public.Frank served int he Korean War, which is where he says he learned to be a man. This overly masculine demeanor carries through in everything he does as he regularly remarks on things not being manly and refers to men as Nancy or Peaches or other female names when they aren't living up to his expectations of manliness.Frank is the only person who regularly stands up to Marie, unabashedly taking advantage of the domestic hierarchy from the time in which he's from that allows him to sit back and order her to make him his meals. Frank was not only an absent father, but seems to have made a point of not showing affection to either of his sons. This, it appears, is a family pattern among men in the family that goes back several generations.
