Dr. Thredson is a trained psychiatrist appointed by the court to evaluate Kit Walker, the accused Bloody Face killer, to determine if he is fit for trial. Intrigued by what he finds at Briarcliff, Thredson later joins the staff fulltime. He shows alarm at the sometimes brutal way Sister Jude runs Briarcliff and clashes with her. He finds Judes caning of the patients and the shock treatments administered to be appalling and lectures her to use compassion instead of corporal punishment. He believes in the power of science over religion as a psychiatric tool, expressing skepticism when the staff performs an exorcism, but he does believe in aversion-conversion therapy as a cure for homosexuality. He purports to have the patients best interests at heart and has a calm, cool demeanor that can seem gentle when dealing with them. He quickly befriends Lana, and offers himself as a trusted ally in her efforts to escape Briarclif. Thredson also extends hope to Kit, lending an understanding, if not entirely sympathetic, ear, but he shows signs of being manipulative as he tries to get Kit to take responsibility for the Bloody Face crimes. Background: Trained psychiatrist with higher than average intellect. Abandoned by his mother when he was young and grew up in an orphanage. Makes furniture as a hobby.
