The Man with No Name is a man of mystery who travels the country on his mule or horse. His usual ventures often involve getting a money reward or helping people. He wears a signature poncho and hat, always smokes cigars, and always carries a revolver with rattle snakes on the grips. Known for his quick draws and aims, he is considered one of the fastest in the West. The Man prefers not to reveal his name. As a result he has gone under a number of nicknames. He was known to some by the nickname Blondie. He has also at least once been referred to as Joe simply because it is a common name. And he has also gone under the name Monco, according to the Sheriff.During the Civil War, The Man (going by the name of 'Blondie') briefly took advantage of a bounty that was placed on a bandit named Tuco. They arranged for him to be turned in so the reward could be collected. Tuco would then be freed by Blondie and the reward would be split between them. However, this did not go well after the two began double-crossing each other. But they held their partnership, in pursuit of $200,000 in gold buried in Sad Hill Cemetery, while also working against another bounty hunter who was also in pursuit of the buried gold. Eventually, a stand off was held between Blondie, Tuco and the bounty hunter, Angel Eyes. Blondie manages to kill Angel Eyes and split the gold with Tuco.On his arrival to the town of San Miguel, The Man with No Name goes by 'Joe' and discovers that the town is in a turf war between the Rojos and the Baxters. He ends up releasing a woman, named Marisol, that the Rojo's had kept as a hostage. Marisol and her family are able to flee as a result of Joe's actions. Joe eventually kills off the Rojos after they've killed the Baxters, ending the dispute. The Man then (going by 'Monco') worked as a bounty killer, making a living by catching outlaws and turning them into the law. On one such occasion, he was pursuing an outlaw known as El Indio. In order to catch him, he formed a partnership with another gunslinger named Colonel Mortimer. The two of them became good friends, and after an intense gunfight, Mortimer decided to allow the Monco to take the bodies of Indio and his gang and take the entire reward himself.Very little is known about his background or what his real name is, although sometimes he reveals parts of his past. In a conversation with an Alcoholic Union Captain, he claims he hails from Illinois. And when Marisol asked why he helped her, her husband and their child and gave them his money, he replied: Why? I knew someone like you once and there was no-one there to help. Though his personality is an efficient bounty killer, The Man is smart, cunning, and tough as nails. But he also displays a tendency to aid and help other people when he feels obligated, as evident while trying to comfort a dying Confederate soldier, saving and helping Marisol and her family, and assist The Colonel in a fair duel with Indio by loaning his revolver. His plans for the future are revealed to Col. Douglas Mortimer. He says he wants to last much longer than 50 years of age (the age Mortimer has almost reached). When I get my hands on Indio and that $10,000, I'm gonna buy myself a little place. Possibly retire. From these words one can conclude that his goal is to get rich and when he succeeds his life as a drifter will be over. There has been debate whether Joe, Monco and Blondie are in fact the same person.
