A young twenty three year old college student imprisoned in Turkey's prison system for drug smuggling in 1970.In Locked Up Abroad Billy claims that because of lack of airport security in the 60s and 70s he had made several trips to Turkey and successfully smuggled hashish into the US,but because of a bomb threat in Istanbul's International airport security was beefed up and passengers leaving,and entering were thoroughly searched.At first they thought Billy had a bomb because of his sweating,and nervous behavior,but it turned out to be hash.At first the authorities found it funny,and it seemed he would be slapped on the wrist and sent home.Then he was looking at three years,but then turned to fifty something,so that Turkey could show the world that they too are fighting a drug trade.
