Barry Zuckerkorn is the Bluth family lawyer who is not known for his competence. He is often sleepy, unprepared and offensive. He makes ragingly homophobic comments, presumably to hide his own possible homosexuality. He is representing George Bluth Sr. on charges of defrauding investors and light treason but doesn't seem prepared to handle any aspect of the case, much to the frustration of Michael.Barry is the Bluth lawyer mostly because he has always been the Bluth lawyer. Lucille considers him part of the family, which, given the general ineptitude of most of the family members, is perhaps completely appropriate. The Bluths are his only client. Without them, his fallback is working as a transvestite prostitute. Background: He blames his lack of preparation on long meetings the night before, but he instead is spending that time cruising at rest stops. His secretary James Alan Spangler, who is gay, successfully sues him for discrimination, hiring Barry's rival Wayne Jarvis. .He paid a man named Stuart to take the California Bar exam for him, which perhaps explains his apparent lack of familiarity with California law. He advises that a husband and wife can't be charged with the same crime and that holding meetings at sea on international waters will protect them from prosecution, suggesting: Take to the sea! He also advises Michael to lie to the police.
