He's the owner of the Prancing Pony Inn in Bree which is located near the Shire. He's a long time friend of Gandalf and is very forgetful and is fond of Hobbits. The Prancing Pony is most significant in the trilogy as place where Strider (Aragorn) and Frodo meet for the first time.
