Will Pope is the Assistant Chief for Operations of the Los Angeles Police Department. He recruits Brenda Leigh Johnson to put together cases that the prosecutors office can win after a series of cases with uncompelling evidence . Bringing in an outsider initially earns him the ire of Commander Russell Taylor, when she replaces him, and the rest of the squad, who is initially loyal to Taylor.Pope is very protective of his squad, and Brenda in particular, often covering for her. He appears to still have feelings for her and is jealous of her relationship with Agent Fritz Howard, but also values her work. Although he defends Brenda when necessary, he also will bark at her if she over-steps.He has a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor.Pope is adept at playing the politics necessary for his job, in a way that Brenda, is not. He expects to be appointed Chief of Police one day.Background: Pope had an affair with Brenda when he was her boss in the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington DC, roughly four years before she moves to L.A., when he was married to his first wife. Shortly after Brenda arrives, his current wife, Estelle, files for divorce.Brenda is dragged into a custody battle for his two children.
