Android 17 is a character from Akira Toriyama's masterpiece Dragon Ball .Originally a human, Android 17 is the male half of the android duo responsible for the terrible future timeline that Trunks is compelled to correct by traveling to the past. He is called 'Android 17' because he is the seventeenth cyborg created by Dr. Gero. He and his sister (Android 18) were created by Dr. Gero in the effort to kill Goku, although the plan backfired on the mad scientist in both timelines when 17 killed Gero after being activated. An unsurprising outcome when you consider the fact that before being turned into cyborgs 17 and 18 were juvenile delinquents (as supposedly stated by Toriyama himself).While his twin sister is blond, he has jet black chin-length hair and icy blue eyes. He is easily recognizable with his orange bandanna, black t-shirt bearing the Red Ribbon Army symbol on the left side of his chest (which all of Dr. Gero's creations sport somewhere on their person), torn blue jeans, green socks, and blue sneakers. Later on we see him adding a jacket to his outfit, which is likely to distinguish him from 'Hellfighter 17' in GT.Once activated in the main timeline 17 and 18, along with 16, set out to find Goku in order to destroy him. Because 17's main concern is for entertainment they steal a pink van to drive there rather than fly there and take care of him quickly. Much like future-timeline 17, he finds joy in driving and blowing things up but there is a recognizable difference between them, possibly because of his death at the hands of Cell, because after he is brought back to life post-Cell Games saga he lives relatively peacefully out in the woods until Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu interfere again from the afterlife controlling him in order to combine him with their new creation Hellfighter 17 making Super 17.In the future timeline, which the History of Trunks depicts, Android 17 is a relatively merciless killer. He and his twin sister 18 have killed all of the Z-Fighters save for Son Gohan who trains Trunks in the hopes that one day he will be able to save the planet from 17 and 18. 17 spends his time attacking cities leaving them in rubble, killing off all of the inhabitants and then running over the survivors with cars while his sister does an equal amount of killing but also likes to shop. Eventually their cruelty catches up with them both as the death of Gohan at their hands pushes Trunks over the edge to Super Saiyan and to travel into the past to correct the future. Unfortunately the timeline of the future doesn't change when he does this, but after some intense training with Vegeta in the past and their faceoff with Cell Trunks does return to the future where 17 and 18 meet their demise.
