Amanda Cryer is the youngest child of Jim and Katheryn Cryer. At the beginning of the series, Amanda is returning home from college for vacation. She is accompanied by her new friend Candace Young. Amanda, a law student, also has a quiet bombshell to drop on her family: She is unhappy in law school and wishes to pursue design instead. Jim appears supportive of his daughter's choice, but Katheryn is outraged, refusing to let her give up a potientially lucrative career. Amanda returns to school with Candace, defeated.Unbeknownst to her parents, Amanda's law school grades are suffering, so she moves into an apartment with the manipulative Candace. During this process Amanda learns that Candace pays her way through law school by working as an escort and prostitute, and has had several high profile clients, including many of the college's law professors, especially her current professor, Professor Cannon. When Amanda reveals to Candace that she is failing Professor Cannon's class, Candace suggests that she harmlessly flirt with the professor to get him to change her grade. She does so, leading the professor to believe that she, too, is an escort. Intrigued, he returns to their apartment. Although Amanda denies being an escort, Professor Cannon refuses to believe her. He leads the virgin Amanda into the bedroom and forcefully rapes her before leaving. When Amanda attempts to tell Candace about the rape, she refuses to believe her, so a suicidal Amanda overdoses on sleeping pills and is later found and taken to the hospital by Candace. When Jim finds out, he immediately blames Candace and tries to convince Amanda to come home, but she refuses, believing Candace to be her only friend. She returns to Candace's apartment and continues to live with her. She also drops out of law school, beginning instead to research art schools. Unbeknowst to Candace, Amanda stops taking her medication, buys a gun and begins to stalk Professor Cannon, threatening to kill him. In the meantime, Amanda's friend Jeffery who has also moved in with her and Candace, begins to notice Amanda exhibiting disturbing behavior: talking and laughing loudly with no one else in the room. Eventually she does break into the professor's house and threaten him, and days later she meets and stabs him in the park. He flees with a knife in his back. Next, Amanda links up with a dangerous thug named Quincy, one of Candace's close friends. He teaches her how to use her gun and also makes seemingly accepted sexual advances towards her. She expresses a desire to want to kill her family. Soon after, Amanda returns home and sneaks around in the middle of the night trying to determine if she should murder her mother, father or brother as they sleep in their beds, or kill herself. It is unknown who, if anyone is dead.
