Little is known about Alex Krycek's background. Throughout the series, little snippets of Krycek's backstory are revealed, although due to the character's untrustworthy nature we can never be sure that he is telling the truth. In 'Tunguska', Krycek tells Mulder his parents were 'Cold War Immigrants'. This may be true, as he speaks fluent Russian and has a distinctly Eastern European sounding name. We also learn that Krycek has at some point been involved romantically with Marita Covarrubias - the two are seen kissing passionately in 'Patient X', though Marita later betrays Krycek. Krycek is seen using the alias 'Comrade Arntzen'. Some fans have speculated this may be his real name, although it seems likely that Krycek is his real name.Krycek's allegiances constantly change throughout the series, and it is apparent that he is acting mostly in his own self interest. His path constantly crosses with Mulder's. He is often considered Mulder's nemesis. In some episodes they are seen forging an uneasy alliance to work towards a common goal.Physically, Krycek is tall, at least as tall as Mulder, with dark hair and green eyes. He looks to be between 25-35 years old (his real age is never established, although in an early draft of the 'Sleepless' script he is described as being 25 years old)
