Youssef Delara, a native of Los Angeles, began his education in the art of film at Loyola Marymount Film School where he focused on directing while pursuing additional coursework in photography at Art Center College of Art and Design. After college he applied his acute visual sense working as a Visual Effects Associate on the highly successful Paramount Television series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, eventually becoming Visual Effects Supervisor, before going on to produce visual effects for Star Trek: Voyager as well as sequences for the popular Star Trek feature films Generations and Insurrection.In 2004, Delara wrote and directed his first feature film, "English as a Second Language," a story loosely based on his experiences living in Los Angeles. The film has garnered critical acclaim as well as multiple awards at the New York Latino, Newport Beach, Boston Latino, Santa Fe and Orlando Latino Film Festivals.In 2009, Delara established Cima Productions as a burgeoning production service company and produced, wrote, directed and edited Cima's 2nd feature film, "Bedrooms" starring: Julie Benz, Moon Bloodgood, Sarah Clarke, Xander Berkely and Barry Bostwick. ''Bedrooms'' was awarded best feature film at 2010 Acefest Film Festival and Naples International Film Festival. The film also garnered Delara an Honorable Mention for Directing at the 14th Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival.In 2011, Delara began production on his most ambitious film to date, Filly Brown, from a script he penned 3 years earlier. "Filly Brown", starring Latino staples, Edward James Olmos, Jenni Rivera and Lou Diamond Phillips as well as young faces, Gina Rodriquez and Joseph Julian Soria, tracks the journey of a street rapper to the precipice of pop stardom. Although the powerful family story caters to the burgeoning 3rd generation American Latino audience it is steeped with original underground hip hop music. "Filly Brown" was selected to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.Delara is developing a slate of films, including his next picture a psychological thriller "SNAP" staring Jake Hoffman scheduled to begin production 2nd quarter 2012.
