Richard Beattie has worked on dozens of film, television and mini-series and has extensive experience as a script doctor in both Canada and the U.S. He won a Genie Award for his adaptation of Cold Comfort and was nominated for a WGC Screenwriting Award (Almost Heaven). His produced film and television work covers all genres. He has also written a play a few books and some vertically challenged poems.Beattie grew up in small towns scattered across British Columbia. He financed his pursuit of higher education by fighting forest fires and prospecting for gold with penny mining companies, but dropped out of the engineering program at UBC after only two weeks. He then traveled around the world on a container ship flying the Liberian flag and after several scurrilous misadventures, returned to UBC and completed a B.A. in Political Science in 1985.Beattie then dropped out of law school, this time before the first day of classes, to write a screenplay (Blindside). The screenplay sold, the film was made and Beattie began his march to becoming the 21st century Pat Hobby. Beattie enjoys derealization, eye catching belts, romance coffee beans and flamboyant shoes.
