Phyllis is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association and SAG-AFTRAShe is a native of Fairfax, Virginia. It was there that she acquired her love for music. After countless hours of singing and dancing in her living room, Phyllis was given the opportunity to perform in the church Christmas pageant. Discovered by the church choir director, Phyllis was immediately asked to join the junior choir. She was bitten by the performing bug right away and has been singing her heart out ever since!Phyllis credits many people for her interest in the arts, but wouldn't have even dreamed of stepping foot on the stage without a push from her 7th Grade English teacher who thought it would be a good way to use her talkative energy in a positive manner. After being cast in a major role in the middle school production, Phyllis not only enrolled in theatre classes at school, but also in the community. She went on to perform in a few of the school productions and took leading roles at various community theatres. She made her professional debut, however, in 1992 singing in the children's chorus of Turandot with the Washington Opera Company at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.Phyllis attended Lynchburg College, a small liberal arts school in the hills of Virginia, where she earned a BA in Music and minor in theatre. While at LC, Phyllis was blessed to be able to perform in several main stage productions including Polly Browne in The Boy Friend, Sue Bayliss in All My Sons, and Huckleby in The Fantasticks. She was even invited to perform the role of Cinderella's Stepmother in Into the Woods with the all-girls school Sweet Briar College: an honor usually only bestowed upon the men of LC.Phyllis also participated in summer stock theatre while in college. She performed in the outdoor drama Horn in the West in Boone, NC and traveled to Italy to sing in Die Zauberflute with The Rome Festival Opera. After undergrad, Phyllis attended graduate school at George Mason University where she received a MA in Music. Shortly after, she moved to New York City where training continued at CAP21, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and Marymount Manhattan at the York. Through these programs she was featured in a variety of musical reviews and showcases.Phyllis has worked in regional theatres across the country including Thunder Bay Theatre, Bear Creek Resort, and The Beechwood Theatre Company. She has toured with American Family Theatre and Snow Camp Outdoor Drama, in addition to presenting and directing concerts and programs for non-profit organizations.
