Paul Butterworth is an award-winning film actor, British Actors' Equity member and full voting BAFTA member.Paul's father was a vicar and he was brought up in the North of England. He was the youngest of four children. His mother started teaching Paul speech and drama when he was eleven, she was the youngest ever gold Poetry Society winner in the 1930's and gave up a potential career in the West End to be a vicar's wife.Growing up there was a family of seven and a large garden where Paul developed his love of gardening and animals. They always kept chickens and he often helped out on local farms.His early childhood was spent in Walsden and at seven the family moved to Guildersome near Leeds. At eighteen he left home to go to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.After leaving drama school he worked as an ASM at the Haymarket theatre Leicester, in children's theatre, in community theatre and in Rep at the Royal Exchange Manchester before starting his film and TV career.In the eighties and early nineties he was employed as an actor almost full time.Three months before filming The Full Monty in 1996 his son was born.Subsequently he shared child rearing duties and cut back on his acting work while always keeping his hand in with small TV and film jobs.Most of his work has been in TV and film with about 40 main cast TV and film credits.When his son started sixth form he started upgrading and updating his acting skills ready for when he left home. After seeing Michael Fassbender arrange an American voice coach on the read through for Frank in Dublin he contacted BAFTA LA and found a world renowned voice coach.Paul Butterworth is a full voting BAFTA member and started the BAFTA First Friday meet ups and the member for member BAFTA Facebook group in 2014.His LA voice coach Jon Sperry coached on movies and was Harvey Keitel's lifelong voice coach, and helped the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Arnold Shwartznegger.Paul chose to study modern neutral American but has also been retraining his voice, taking acting direction and improving his ear and general acting skills.His son is starting his second year in Film School and Paul is now putting all his energies back into building his acting career.He would love to work back in the North of England.One of his lifelong hobbies is fine art and in 2016 he started studying with the Open College of the Arts - (validated by University of Creative Arts, London) and is enjoying Drawing1.Paul Butterworth has a new agent, photographs, and a short film in which he shot in Venice Beach in Easter 2016. He plays the co-lead with Jon Sperry. This is being professionally edited and color graded, scored by an Emmy nominated composer and the sound corrected by Matt Snowden at Chemical Audio.Paul will use this as an example of current work, playing a lead opposite an experienced professional actor, and market it to casting directors, directors and producers.
