A lot of screenwriting is like carpentry. It's really all about structure, and if you read interviews with screenwriters, it's wonderful. Some of them work with a stopwatch, and some of them let the character pull them forward, and others sit down and and hammer out a detailed 20-page outline that lays out the movie, beat by beat. And others have very rough ideas , a vague outline of where they're going, but they like to surprise themselves on the journey. There's a million ways to approach it. Show less «

My theory of writing is that you write fast because once you have a finished first draft, then you really have something to work with. A lot pf people slave over every page and every page has to be perfect. I think on a first draft it's a mistake to work like that, because everything is going to change later. Show less «
