Born Michael Salzhauer in New York, New York, Dr. Miami, is a world-renowned board-certified plastic surgeon who has pioneered the evolution of plastic surgery procedures to a mainstream social media audience. He began his famed career with multiple television appearances on news programs and talk shows before establishing his celebrity doctor status. Dr. Miami now performs breast augmentations, butt lifts, and tummy tucks, live and uncut to an audience of over 800,000 viewers daily on his Snapchat. When Michael Salzhauer was four years old, his father bought him his first stethoscope. Every night he would listen to his father's heartbeat before he went to bed, it was then that he knew he wanted to be a doctor. A few years later, Salzhauer discovered the show M.A.S.H. on television. He credits this television show for developing his personal passion and desire to become a surgeon. After high school, Salzhauer quickly enrolled in Brooklyn College where he majored in Psychology. While at college, he met another Psychology major named Eva in the school cafeteria. The two had a lot of similar interests and soon began dating. They shared a love for travel, especially to the beaches of Southern Florida and the couple eventually married in 1994.After receiving his Psychology degree, Salzhauer moved to the mid-west to attend the Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, MO. In 1996, after completing Medical School with honors, Dr. Salzhauer and his wife moved to Miami, FL to begin his surgical residency training. In 2003, he opened his private practice where he proved himself to be an exceptional surgeon and developed a reputation as a specialist in liposuction and body-reshaping.The majority of his patients were young mothers who wanted to better their bodies after having children. Dr. Salzhauer would often listen to his patients try to prepare their children for images of their mother with bandages and bruises on her body and face. After witnessing this for several years, Salzhauer had an idea.On May 1, 2008, Dr. Salzhauer released his first book, My Beautiful Mommy. This animated book was created as a comfortable way to explain to children the reasons for mommy's upcoming surgery and the images they can expect during her recovery. The book was very controversial within the medical community and quickly became a hot topic in mainstream media. Dr. Salzhauer was seen explaining the book as a guest on The Today Show, The Early Show, and Entertainment Tonight and the book was also thoroughly discussed on FOX Business, CNN, The Doctors, Real Time with Bill Maher and The O'Reilly Factor. After the book release, Salzhauer's popularity was off the charts and his controversial antics were just beginning. In 2009 he developed and released the first ever plastic surgery simulation software called "Dr. Miami's Surgeon in a Box". This was the beginning of his now famous nickname that changed his identity from Dr. Salzhauer to "Dr. Miami". The software was also launched in a mobile app version called "iSurgeon" which also created a media frenzy when it was covered in newspapers around the world and a live demonstration on CBS's The Doctors. In 2010 a new plastic surgery craze was sweeping America called the Brazilian butt lift. In this procedure patients would have the fat sucked out of their stomach and transferred into their buttocks. Although this was new to some, it was not new to Dr. Miami. He had been performing the procedure since he opened his practice in 2003 and because of his success with it, the plastic surgery community now credits Dr. Miami as one the American pioneers for the Brazilian butt lift's popularity. Dr. Miami was also the first person ever seen performing the procedure in exclusive features on Inside Edition, Dr. Oz, and TMZ.His fame as Dr. Miami soon caught the attention of celebrities and reality TV stars.
