Martha McConnell was first exposed to Shakespeare and theater in school as a young child. She fell in love. The passion and psychology in his works was inspiring and hard to resist. Unfortunately, she was not allowed to pursue that passion. She had a passion for mathematics and psychology, and loved science, so she went to college. During college, she was scouted for film, modeling, and a beauty pageant, but again, was not allowed to pursue those. When she became independent, she took additional acting courses in Chicago and Washington, D.C. From there, she began working in film, print, and voice over work.Though she was not allowed to pursue acting as a child, for etiquette training reasons, she was allowed to attend Barbizon Modeling and Acting Center at age nine in downtown Chicago. She was the youngest in her class and walked to and from the center by herself. She would get up early on the weekend and with much excitement and joy, participated in the center for full day sessions. It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. There, she learned about fashion, how to walk in a fashion show, makeup, acting, dancing, and etiquette. The lessons have stayed with her for life. With the heart and soul of a dancer, she could not stop dancing as a child. She wanted to perform as a dancer since she was a toddler. She eventually formally trained in ballet, flamenco, hip hop, jazz, and modern dance, with her focus on ballet. She did repertory ballet at university and later taught dance professionally. She also has a brown belt in martial arts.
