Edward Lee Morgan was an American Jazz trumpeter, known for helping establish the Hard Bop subgenre. He famously played with John Coltrane and Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers before launching a solo career. His composition "The Sidewinder", was a crossover hit on the Pop and R&B charts in 1964. His sessions as leader often included Hank Mobley and Wayne Shorter, and contributed to what's referred to as the 'classic' period of the Blue Note record label.
