American writer and novelist Katherine Anne Porter was born at Indian Creek, TX, in 1890. She was raised in Texas and Louisiana, and educated in small convent schools. A writer almost since birth--she started writing at age three, she said, "as soon as I learned to form letters on paper"--she did not attempt to get anything published until she was 30. In 1931 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship to study abroad. Her most famous novel is "Ship of Fools", which was made into a successful film (Ship of Fools (1965)), and one of her short stories, "Noon Wine", has been filmed several times as an episode of various television anthology series.She died in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1980 at age 90, Show less «
