After getting bitten by the acting bug - and getting parental agreement - Joy graduated with a dual major in Drama and International Relations. While based in NYC, Joy continued her training: studying Classical Acting at the British American Drama Academy (Oxford, UK) under Fiona Shaw and John Barton, and Voice with David Jones and Kenneth Khamal Scott. In 2010, she graduated with an Acting MFA from UNC-Chapel Hill.Joy has performed internationally with the Royal Shakespeare Company and work-shopped new plays in NYC at the Public Theatre and Playwrights Horizons and other venues. She's also performed at renowned regional theatres such as the Denver Center, the Huntington Theatre, Arena Stage, Studio Theatre and up-and-coming theatres like TheatreSquared, where she originated the role of singer-activist Nina Simone in the World Premiere of "The Champion". She has worked on TV (The Shakespeare Sessions); in film (Confidential Informant, Hide & Seek, DC Noir) and continues to perform on stage.
