Having starred on Broadway in several plays, Joan McCall first got her first movie role as a star in "Devil Times Five" (1974) and then appeared in "Act of Vengeance" (1975). She then starred in the box-office hit Grizzly, le monstre de la forêt (1976).She is a Producer and President of Hollywood West Entertainment and Joda Productions. A prolific screenwriter, she has written over 200 produced scripts for film and television under the name Joan Pommer as well as Joan McCall. She wrote a screenplay about race car driver Shirley Muldowney called "Shirley" for producer Lamar Card which was developed and produced as "Heart Like a Wheel" (1983). She then wrote "Predator: The Concert" co-authored with David Sheldon, which was produced in Europe with George Clooney, Deborah Raffin, Louise Fletcher, John Rhys Davies, Steve Inwood, Deborah Foreman, Charlie Sheen, and Laura Dern.She was staff writer for "The Days of Our Lives" (NBC), "Santa Barbara", produced by Bridgit and Jerome Dobson, for New World Television. She became an associate writer for "Capitol," produced by Charlotte Savage, for John Conboy Productions, after writing a six-month story projection for "Search For Tomorrow" for Proctor & Gamble. As associate writer for NBC's "Another World", she wrote two scripts a week, for a year.As an actress, Joan McCall starred on Broadway as the ingénue lead in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park with Sylvia Sidney and Judd Hirsch, directed by Mike Nichols, and also as the ingénue lead in Neil Simon's The Star-Spangled Girl with Anthony Perkins and Richard Benjamin. She also starred in the national tours of these productions for a year in each of them.A native of Kentucky, Joan graduated from Berea College with a B.A. degree in art and theater. She trained for the theater in New York, acting in summer stock and studying with Lee Strasberg. In Los Angeles she studied with Charles Conrad where she got the writing bug by creating scenes for herself to perform in his acting classes.McCall is co-author of the bestseller "When I Knew Al: The Untold Story of Al Pacino" (2006) published by Harbor House.
