Jean Lizza was born in Perth, Western Australia but resides in Melbourne. Growing up, Jean attended drama classes and played a range of musical instruments. She went to Edith Cowan University studying film and creative writing. While in Perth, Jean also worked at Luna Cinema and booked all ages gigs at a youth skate park. She moved to Melbourne to study at RMIT, a specialist course called Professional Screenwriting for Film and TV. During this time, she gained a mentorship with Laura Waters and Princess Pictures and worked as a crew member on Chris Lilley's Summer Heights High and controversial documentary the The 10 Conditions of Love. Up until 2012, Jean managed three Melbourne based bands, under the guise Mother Hubbard- Umlaut, Sex on Toast and The Bluejays. Jean is responsible for Tommy Wiseau's film The Room, widely considered one of the worst films of all time, to be screened to audiences in Melbourne and across Australia. Jean has acted in several sketches for shows within Lost Dog TV program, originally screened on Melbourne's Ch 31. Jean is the film programmer for The Shadow Electric Open Air Cinema located in Melbourne. Jean is the co-host of the podcast Quality Time with Jean and Angus, with Sex on Toast front man, Angus Leslie.
