Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Devoti made his way from Merrick to Baltimore, MD, where he attended and graduated with honors from Loyola University, earning a BA in Advertising and a Minor in Business. He competed on the #1 nationally ranked Loyola Greyhounds Men's Lacrosse Team, going to the Final Four his freshman year. After graduation, James traveled to West Africa to volunteer his time and efforts in Ghana. While there, James taught elementary mathematics and pioneered an elementary school basketball league.In 2002 Devoti relocated to New York City, where he began his acting career starring in several commercials and Independent Feature Films. In November of 2004, Devoti relocated to Los Angeles, where he successfully took his career to the next level, appearing in several guest starring roles on some of the biggest prime-time television shows on the air. These shows include CSI:NY, Heroes, Lie To Me, Jericho and The Unit. Transitioning from the small screen to the big screen, he booked the lead role in Lionsgate's horror film, Lake Dead, and supporting roles in the star-studded CG-animated feature film, Battle for Terra: 3D, which was also released theatrically by Lionsgate, premiering at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival and Middle Men, released theatrically by Paramount.Demonstrating Devoti's range, he appeared on ABC's biggest comedy hit Modern Family and CBS's Rules of Engagement, followed by a break-out role in ABC's new comedy, Man Up, which premiered in Fall 2011.In 2011, Devoti produced the sci-fi feature White Space, in which he stars opposite Holt McCallany. In 2014, Devoti wrote, produced and starred in the short film, With You, directed by Dragan Roganovic aka Dirty South which accompanies Dirty South's album by the same name. In just one week, the film went to #1 in 17 countries on iTunes.Devoti has an active development roster, which includes the option on Dead Center, Ed Kugler's non-fiction tome about a Marine sniper's story during the Vietnam War.Devoti was last seen on the big screen in a supporting lead role in director David Boyd's feature, Home Run, theatrically released in the spring of 2013 by Samuel Goldwyn Films.James has one older brother, John Devoti who served in Afghanistan as a Lieutenant in 2004 and in Iraq in 2008 as a Captain with the United States Marine Corps. He is currently a Major in the USMC and resides in San Diego as a fireman with the San Diego Fire Department.Devoti's father, Robert, passed away to lung cancer when James was only thirteen years old. He served as a sniper with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. His mother, who resides in Merrick, New York, is a retired school teacher. He attributes his work ethic, persistence and determination to the values she instilled in him as a single mom.
