Yumiko Cheng Hei-Yi born (as Cheng Lit-King) on September 6, 1981 in Shanghai. Yumiko moved with her family to Hong Kong at the age of 11 and started taking singing lessons. When she was 13 with powerhouse singer Elisa Chan. Around this time Cheng got the opportunity to appear in a few films through her father, who worked for movie and advertising companies and often brought her with him onto movie sets. She played the daughter of an assassinated court official who was on the run from Donnie Yen's eunuch character in Dragon Inn (1992) and reportedly also had a small part in Centre Stage (1992). However, Yumiko did not officially enter the entertainment business until she caught the attention of executives from Emperor Entertainment Group while performing at the New Talent Competition. She signed with the record company in 2000. In 2002, she was paired with two other girls to form the group 3T. They released one album before Yumiko quit the group to start her solo career as a singer.Yumiko then released her first EP named 'Yumiko The Debut' on November 2002. In June 2003 Yumiko became a popular singer after releasing her 2nd EP named 'Dance Dance Dance'. Five months later she released her first album One2Three on November 2003, then she went on to release her 2nd album named 'Perfect Date' which didn't catch the attention of music listeners. In mid August 2005 Yumiko released yet another album named 'Yumiko's Space' hoping to get herself more music fans and this time her song 'Arabian Market' became a popular hit, which proves she has made a very good comeback. In April this year (2006) Yumiko released her 4th album 'Passion'. Her song 'When Rose Encounters Love' made it to the top 10 of the Hong Kong charts, and became a popular song during its first week of its release. Her 2nd single 'Wild Girl' made it to No. 1 on the charts making her a popular female singer this year.
