Born Thomas James Hyland, III at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Because he was the third Thomas in the family, he was nicknamed after his great-grandfather who had been dubbed "Hack" by his brick-laying co-workers during the Great Depression. The nickname was given to children who went to work on the brickyard. Hack began acting at age 8 at Denver's old Bonfils Theatre. With the help of his siblings and first cousins, he wrote, directed, and performed in numerous family plays until entering Denver East High School. Following high school, he began performing in community and semi-professional theater in Denver and at Seattle's New City Theatre. In 1989, he earned his Screen Actor's Guild eligibility when he was cast in a principle role in an episode of Father Dowling Mysteries (1989). He enrolled in college at Denver's Auraria Higher Education Center, majoring in English with a minor in Theatre, and graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2002 with a BA in English Writing. Hack has been active in the Denver theatre scene and has performed at various theaters throughout the city in many productions. Most recently as Aslan in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and as Louis in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. In 2016, he was cast as John Ramsey in the film, Casting JonBenet (2017) Hack is listed with Maximum Talent Agency in Denver. Show less «
