Dre Erwin was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. After serving in the armed forced, he quickly realized he wanted to peruse a career saving lives, rather than trying to take them away, so he obtained his degree in nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. Working in ER and ICU in Regina and Moose Jaw, Dre took a full time position as a primary care RN(AAP) in Pinehouse Lake, Saskatchewan, a rural northern community of about 1400 metis/first nations people. It was shorty before his move up to the north that Dre discovered photography after going through personal turmoil, depression, and even addictions. He was caught in the path of a tornado the very first time he took out his camera to take pictures of a barn in the middle of a farmers field. It was that moment he realized the power of photography and how it saved his life. Bringing that with him up north, Dre quickly discovered how therapeutic photography can help so many others as it did himself. As himself, youth began using photography as an escape from their pain. They began seeing the beauty in life through the lens and in every day life. And this is what led to Dre using this powerful tool to help so many others by spreading the word across the country through documentaries by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses, through CBC, in commercials and billboards, on CBC and Global National news. Dre founded the Pinehouse Photography Club which focuses on preventing mental health problems and addictions in youth. These activities caught the eye of filmmakers and photographers who casted him in I Lived with a Killer" as an FBI agent. A powerful message to many youth especially up north in Pinehouse, how one man's compassion and dedication can change the lives of so many. Show less «
