David Lee Hess was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Linda Lee Hess (Yerion) and James Albert Hess, package store proprietors. Hess moved to Austin and attended the University of Texas where he graduated with degrees in English, History, Philosophy, and Communication. At Texas State University in San Marcos, he received a Masters degree in Communication. While working on the graduate degree, he traveled to Austin almost every weekend to perform music. After graduation, Hess recorded and released a dozen albums under various band names and traveled across the country to perform. His most recent albums include Supersonic Uke's "Seriously"; Paper Lawn's "Every Fool in Love"; and Baby Got Bacteria's "Boo."In 2008, Hess began studying improvisation at ColdTowne Theater in Austin. Since then, he's performed improv in festivals across the country. In August of 2011, he was cast in his first feature film. Since 2011, Hess has worked in over two dozen feature, short films, and web series, as well as episodes of TNT's Dallas and NBC's Revolution.In 2015, Hess moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting opportunities more seriously. His first role after the move was a lead in James Franco's experimental film installation, "In Winesburg." Hess spends free time writing for film and playing guitar quietly in an apartment in Silver Lake.
