A childhood passion for the classic Universal monsters, coupled with a love of the fine arts led Crist Ballas toward the rather unconventional study of makeup. After many years of honing his skills, he further refined his make-up techniques under the tutelage of the legendary Dick Smith. He continues to be an innovator in his field, and is known for his work in natural, beauty and ultra-realistic character makeups.As owner and supervisor of Metamorphosis Make-Up Artistry, based out of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ballas has enjoyed a diverse and challenging career in the industry over the past 30 years. Additionally Crist also brings an intrinsic affinity for the acting process, and feels honored to be a part of creating a character and helping an actor realize their full potential. I feel the most interesting thing about his craft is the diversity and how it incorporates other occupations into his work: chemistry, anatomy, medical prosthetics, dentistry, sculpture, mold-making, painting, hairstyling, mechanical engineering, design, research and development, color matching, continuity, on set diplomacy, budgeting and managing projects.
