She was awarded 2018 Heath Ledger Scholarship, the 2018 Equity Atlantic Award and received a Sydney Theatre Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2017. She starred in Nekrotronic (2018) alongside Monica Bellucci and starred, wrote, produced & directed the series Little Sista, winner of Best Screenplay at the LGBT Toronto Film Festival and finalist in Web Series Festival Global, Hollywood and included for official selection in Out Web Fest LA, Web Series Festival Global, Sicily Web Fest, Roma Cinema DOC, New Jersey Web Fest, ITVFest, Tuscany Web Fest, Miami Web Fest and Melbourne Web Fest.In 2018, Charmaine Bingwa made history becoming the first openly gay, person of color to be awarded the Heath Ledger Scholarship in its 10 year duration. The judging panel included the likes of Oscar-winner Matt Damon, Naomi Watts, Elizabeth Debicki, Rose Byrne, Carmen Cuba and Jeremy Podeswa.Naomi Watts praised her saying, "we were all incredibly moved by her performance in her final audition and can't wait to follow her career." Elizabeth Debicki also commented "In the end, Charmaine's final audition, which showcased her raw and vivid talent, absolutely blew me and my fellow judges away."She was also awarded the 2018 Equity Award by the Australian Union and spent two months studying in New York, thanks to Australia's largest cable broadcaster, Foxtel.Also an accomplished writer, she received critical reception not only for her award-winning series Little Sista, but for her short film Stille Nacht, which will receive it's world premiere at Academy© Qualifying and BAFTA Recognized film festival Flickerfest.An accomplished theatre performer, Charmaine starred in 5 different productions in 2017 and has worked with high caliber playwrights like John Patrick Shanley.
