His first game as Red Sox broadcaster, on April 5, 2001, was an historic event as Hideo Nomo pitched a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of the season, the first Red Sox no-hitter since 1965. He had been the announcer for the Red Sox AAA affiliate in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He had also done play-by-play work for the Springfield (Mass.) Falcons of the AHL.
