In the summer of 2002 Brendan G. Murphy made the decision to move from his home in New York to Los Angeles, California in pursuit of his dreams. At age twenty-six, Brendan's passion and unyielding drive have propelled him further toward his goals than most ever achieve. He manipulates the lens of a camera as a means of exposing truth from a perspective grounded in both beauty and chaos. Brendan was exposed to film from an early age. Whether it was watching western classics and film noir with his father or science fiction with his mother, it was from this initial introduction that began his love affair with cinema. In the year 2000, Brendan graduated from Hofstra University in New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Film Production. Within a year he began editing professionally for television. Brendan decided to further his education by studying method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatrical Institute while working as a full time editor in New York City. Brendan has since spent a great deal of time meticulously perfecting his craft. At twenty-three, two pieces he edited for a New York City magazine-style show received NY Emmy Nominations. However Brendan's editing skills are not confined to any one arena. The knowledge and experience he has acquired within his own life have allowed him to diversify; he has edited in genres such as reality, sports, talk, entertainment, commercial, corporate, network, promos, trailers, film, and music videos. His clients have included Disney & the ABC Cable Networks Group, Columbia Tri-Star Television, Telepictures, King World Entertainment, Rysher & Paramount Television, Proctor & Gamble, Saatchi & Saatchi, Playboy Television, The YES Network, Hurricane Entertainment, Avoca Productions, The Metro Channel, North River Productions, Mantra Entertainment, and Terminal Bliss Pictures. After two years of freelancing as a professional editor in Los Angeles, he recently teamed up with Ryan Sweeney; together they will soon unleash their independent production company, Altered State Entertainment. The short film, NUMB, written, directed, co-produced, and edited by Brendan, has hit the festival circuit this year. It has been an official selection of the NJ International Film Festival and the Philadelphia Video Festival. Brendan is also featured in the April 2004 issue of Rolling Stone Latin America regarding the completion of his music video directorial debut for Cage 9's "Sick of It!" from their Onyx Inch EP-BMG Music. Pre-production is in effect for Brendan's next film and is set to begin shooting next year. A number of screenplays are also in the works. Film has always played an instrumental role in Brendan's life, reinforcing his own passion to inspire. His genuine love of cinema, especially for that of the independent movie scene is clearly evident in his own work. A natural-born leader, Brendan has never been one to conform to standard conventions. He is known to employ guerilla filmmaking tactics in painstaking pursuit of the `perfect shot.' Intensely fusing the essentials of writing, acting, and editing, Brendan is deeply committed to sculpting his vision of becoming a great film director.
