Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp - Season 1
Follow the counselors and campers on their first day at Camp Firewood in the summer of 1981. It’s the first morning at Camp Firewood, and the horny counselors are already making their moves, while something sinister is going on in the woods.
Beyond the inside jokes, WHAS:FDoC succeeds because it doubles up on the nothing-is-sacred promise of the film, and proceeds to absorb every beat, cliché, or overused trope ever put to film in its [Andy voice:] "whatever, man" orbit.
The 8-episode series mostly succeeds by sheer force of will. The viewers are so bombarded by jokes that something is bound to tickle you eventually-though truth be told it may take awhile.
Too often "jokes" were laboured in this vein, while a conveyor belt of fine actors, from Jason Schwartzman to Janeane Garofalo, were left with little space to act.
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp gets a lot of mileage out of funny names, ridiculous pop culture references and wildly inconsistent accents.
